Computers and Writing, Spring 2008

The advent of computer technologies and related web-based communities and hosted services such as social-networking sites (myspace, youtube, facebook, google everything, etc.), wikis, and folksonomies, are rapidly and fundamentally changing our work, our play, our lives. This is especially true in how our oldest information technolgies - "writing" - is being transformed. No longer confined to pen and paper, these technoglogies are redefining the how, the why, and the what of writing.

This writing course focuses on the impact of computer technolgies and "writing." Specifically, we will study the tools and methods that we use to filter, rearrange, and transform information.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

  • Make clear and compelling arguments based on strong evidence
  • Express your ideas in a lively and engaging style
  • Use a variety of technoglogical tools to construct arguments and convey information
  • Collaborate with others to create and revise texts
