Unit One - The Body as Rhetorical Space

The first unit will look at the body as a rhetorical space. We will read several essays on body theory and begin to think about how the body is deployed to make definition arguments. How are standards or ideals for the body established? How are they communicated through a textual or visual presentation of a body?

Our primary texts for this unit are selected readings that range from rhetorical theory, to body criticism, to paintings and photographs. These will all be distributed in class or through this website.
