Final Presentation
After researching and analyzing a controversial topic all semester, you will present your findings in your final presentation. Since most members of the class will be unfamiliar with your topic, you should spend a good part of your presentation simply explaining the controversy, what the problem is, how it works, and any other background information that you feel is relevant. In addition, you will argue your own position on the controversy. You will also be required to use some form of visual aid. Since your audience is a class of students who will generally have no investment in your topic, you need to find a way to interest them. Visual aids are usually helpful in this capacity. You may use any visual form that you find relevant: youtube videos, images, advertisements, photos, cartoons, and even the standard powerpoint presentation. You will use the computer in our classroom to show these visuals, so you may use USB’s to show the files or use the internet to find the images on the day of your presentation.
Overall, the most important aspect of the presentation is that you come well prepared and practiced. You may use notes to help you through it, but you definitely should not read the presentation. You should be prepared enough to go through the presentation smoothly. You should have control over your media and be prepared to find the images that you intend to use quickly.
Here are the essential requirements:
- Background information on the controversy as necessary
- Argument for your position on the controversy
- Visuals that supplement your arguments and/or the explanation of the controversy
- 5-7 minutes in length
