Paper #3: Proposal Guidelines

Paper #3: Proposal Guidelines (1 to 2 pages)

Your third paper involves more research and source material than your previous ones, so it’s important to establish a good working thesis before you start the process of writing and researching. You’ll need to use at least 5 outside sources for this project, so your proposal should include the following information:

1. Working Thesis. What is the trend that you want to analyze, and what is the basic analysis of it that you intend to carry out? What is the argument about causes and effects that you intend to make about this trend, and what are your major reasons for making that argument?

2. Identifying and Analyzing the Trend. How do you know that this trend exists? How will you prove that it does?

3. Annotated Bibliography. This is preliminary, and it’s understood that you might not have all your sources picked out just yet. However, you must list, in this section, as many sources as you can find to prove that your arguments are good ones. These sources could be magazine or newspaper articles on the subject (or books about it), but they could also be statistical databases, general cultural studies, newspaper articles, blogs, web resources, or interviews that you conducted (as well as other sources!). List these sources separately, provide Works Cited information for them, and give a brief explanation for why you chose each source and how you think it will help you to prove your argument.

Write this up and post it to the Wiki site by 8PM, 4/6. Also, print out a copy and bring it to class on 4/7 to hand in to me.
