Course description
As an introduction to “Rhetoric and Writing” this course is designed to introduce and reinforce successful strategies for reading critically and writing effectively. It will also introduce and reinforce strategies for effective research and it will present you with some fundamental concepts in the field of rhetoric. The course is broken into four units (Introduction, Mapping a controversy, Analyzing a position within a controversy, and Advancing a position within a controversy), each of which will build on the previous ones. The themes that will run through these four units will be derived from your readings in Michael Pollan’s In Defense of Food.
