I grew up in Buchanan, Virginia and Crozet, Virginia and began my post-secondary education at Piedmont Virginia Community College. From 1999-2002 I attended the University of Iowa, majoring in English. From 2002 to 2004 I worked for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) at the National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC) in Charlottesville, Virginia as an imagery analyst. In 2004 I came to the University of Texas at Austin, where I am currently pursuing a PhD in English, focusing on Rhetoric and Writing. My research interests include arguments from authority, political rhetoric, rhetorical hermeneutics, visual rhetoric, prose style, rhetoric of journalism, and pedagogy. My dissertation, tentatively titled "Rhetorical Intelligence," explores the role of rhetoric in the post-9/11, post-Iraq invasion US intelligence community.
