Texts

You will need to have a copy of Thomas Pychon's The Crying of Lot 49, Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, and Thomas King's Green Grass, Running Water. You do NOT need to have a copy of Pulp Fiction. You also need to have a style guide, but it does not have to be The Little Penguin Handbook. Faigley and Selzer's Good Reasons is recommended for supplementary rhetoric instruction.
All of these books should be available at the Co-op. You might also check bookstores around town or Amazon.com. You can find the Neutral Milk Hotel album in town at Waterloo Records or online at Merge Records.
We will also be reading a few articles this semester. You can either follow the links to them online or download a copy from the attachments below.
Thomas de Zengotita, "The Numbing of the American Mind"
Don DeLillo, "In the Ruins of the Future" (download a PDF version here)
Barack Obama, "Call to Renewal" Keynote Address
Thomas King, "'You'll Never Believe What Happened' is Always a Good Way to Start" (not yet linked)
