I would like to connect the film "The Matrix (1999)" to the columbine shootings. I would like to know how to find newspaper articles from this time particularly blaming the film for these kids' actions as well has books written about this event. I noticed that when a tragic event like this happens, many people are quick to put the blame on a set of physical objects i.e. video games, violent films, popular artists. I want to find out if their is a reasonable cause for "The Matrix" to be considered influence or have responsibility for the events at columbine. The questions I would have to consider would be "What does the movie say to a normal movie goer?, What does it say to a troubled teenager? Does it glorify violence, or is it their for a deeper meaning? Was the meaning too well hidden for a regular audience? Should we as an audience be responsible for interpreting what we see? How do we distinguish reality from the events taking place in a movie. Is the ability crucial?" and so on.
