The topics I wish to write paper three on are the civil rights movement and the movie Malcolm X. Simply because I don’t know anything about Malcolm X and think it would be interesting to learn about him.
1. I was wondering if there were any audio or video recordings of Malcolm X’s speeches. My professor said that a lot of the meaning of his speeches was lost in the translation to text. While I know at least a little of the civil rights movement I know next to nothing about Malcolm X.
2. The film Malcolm X is about the life of Malcolm X so I am fairly certain it will have something to do with the civil rights movement as well.
Urrea’s description of what your body goes through during hyperthermia is calm and detached. I emphasize the word your body because the most used word in the section is you. Almost as if he is watching you die through a window, just following you around till you die. It gives you an idea of what people traversing the devils highway half to go through. Even if they make it out intact every walker gets to at least start down the path of hyperthermia. The number of names mentioned is zero making your journey all the more personal. By not naming any of the people introduced so far you can’t shift your imagination to watch as Mendez or someone else dies you have to imagine yourself in their place. His choice of view, third person allows him to see exactly what’s happening around the person in gory detail and still allows him to dive in and see and feel what might be going through their mind.
