1a. I believe that Ben Affleck more similarly uses the techniques that Michael Lewis uses in The Blind Side. Both Ben and Michael use pathos in the same way. They show an innocent child in a broken home with a drugged up mother with no real father in sight who just wants to be loved. In both cases you automatically feel bad for Michael Oher and little Amanda and wish for them to have a better life. Ben and Lewis also both use imagery in a similar way telling storys about how bad the kids childhoods were.

QUIZ 4: Do the Right Thing vs Gone Baby Gone (Anne Ngac)

1. A.) In their films, both Spike Lee and Ben Affleck both uses different techniques to support their claims. In Do the Right Thing, Lee relies on tons of imagery and sound. Opening scene of his film, a girl is dancing aggressively to the music. The audience will notice that her outfit changes throughout the scene. As the music gets more intense—“fight the power”---she is using boxing gloves. When one is using boxing gloves, one is willing to fight someone or something. Lee uses pathos here that appeals to power, which supports his claim that it is right to fight for power.

Quiz 4: Do the Right Thing and Gone Baby Gone (Dylan Porter)

1. C) In The Blind Side, Do the Right Thing, and Gone Baby Gone the neighborhood that the characters are in plays an important role in the development of the stories. In Malcolm X’s “Ballot or the Bullet” speech he emphasizes the importance of making sure that the blacks run their own communities and do not let others come in and take the revenues that the blacks should be giving themselves. This concept applies to all of the stories because there is little interaction with the people of the primary neighborhoods and everyone else that lives around the main setting.

Quiz 4 (kareem)

1) A. In the movie “Gone Baby Gone” the director emphasizes mainly on pathos and then ethos. Since the whole story of the film is based on a young child who gets kidnapped, the movie plays with the audience’s feelings until the end of the movie. The movie starts by showing the life of a young successful special detective who investigates in the case. The detective’s character has three stages in the film, first when he refuses to accept to investigate because he thinks they won’t find the child alive since she disappeared 3 days before.

Quiz 4 (Sang-Min Kim)

1.a) Ben Affleck uses a technique more similar to Lewis's in The Blind side. Ben seems to focus more on ethos and pathos to attract viewers like Lewis uses a lot on the use of ethos and pathos. Both main character, Patrick and Mookie are in the similar way that they conflict between their decision. I think that Ben would be a better choice to adapt Lewis's book and direct the film based on it. like Lewis work on the pathos, Ben uses the appeal of pathos a lot in the movie when missing child is dead and Amanda's dark background like Michael Oher.
