Terror Alert: Severe

24 people were arrested today in coordination with a terrorist plot to blow up planes heading from London's Heathrow Airport to the United States. As many as 10 flights from London to the Untied States were involved. The plan was foiled. Apparently they were going to use some kind of liquid material in water bottles or soda cans to blow up the planes. It's believed the plot has connections with al-Qaeda. All 24 were British, and some had Pakistani descent. Pakistan helped in the arrest.

obese babies?

I thought this was an interesting article about obesity in America. Apparently even babies have not been spared.

Bigger babies are not necessarily better

WASHINGTON, DC, United States (UPI) -- We may coo over their folds and wrinkles, but today`s infants have too much baby fat for their own good, a new study says.

In a 22-year study of thousands of infants and preschool-aged children, the prevalence of overweight rose dramatically -- particularly among babies less than 6 months of age.

'We have a cultural norm where a big baby is a healthy baby,' said study author Dr. Matthew Gillman, associate professor of ambulatory care and prevention at Harvard University.

music and sex

I was looking through headlines on Google news and came across and interesting (and maybe crazy) article that links permiscuous lyrics to early sexual activity in children ages 12-17. It is quite amusing and definetly worth a read.

Teenage fans of crude music have sex sooner, study finds

Teens who listen to music with degrading sexual lyrics have sex sooner than teens who don't, a new study says.

The research, which will be published today in the August issue of Pediatrics, the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, is the first study to examine the relationship between what teens hear through their headphones and what they do in their bedrooms.

more on israel/lebanon

Here is a link to the BBC. It gives a day-by-day overview on the conflict. The BBC is a generally reliable source for news. It may be somewhat biased, but not as much as our news media.

Israel/ Lebanon

I'm sure many of you are aware there is a crisis occuring in Lebanon. Aside from the conflict that has been going on for decades, the crisis started when Hamas (the organization who won the majority in the Palestinian parliament in January, it has been dubbed a terrorist organization) captured two Israeli soldiers in the Gaza strip. Hezbollah (a Lebanese terrorist organization not affiliated with Hamas) then captured another Israeli soldier. As a result Israel attacked Hezbollah and the crisis escalated. Hezbollah has fired over 2000 rockets into Israel as of yesterday (I'm not sure how many Israel has fired, as our media is biased towards Israel). Israel fired a rocket yesterday that ( they say accidentally) killed 4 U.N. peacekeepers. The leader of Hezbollah annouced yesterday that Hezbollah would continue to fire rockets, and would now launch rockets into Tel Aviv. The Lebanese government does not have any affiliation with Hezbollah and cannot gain control over them. Hezbollah has ties with Iran and Syria. Now Iraqi militants are traveling to Lebanon to help Hezbollah because Hezbollah is outnumbered 100 to 1 against Israel. Today leaders from nations around the world met in Rome to discuss and try to solve the issue. The United States supports Israel, but many countries around the world support Lebanon. The problem though is that the conflict between these nations is extremely deep seated, and the issue cannot be solved overnight. The United Nations/ nations meeting in Rome want to solve this conflict fast, but that cannot be done.

Bush claims tax cuts pay for deficit

This article is from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. It basically rips Bush's claim apart that his tax cuts count for the lowering of the deficit. It is an interesting article, definitely worth reading.
