Paper 2.2

Branding as an Escape from Personal Responsibility

Embrace of external forms of expression is no more than a display of deep-seated feelings of inferiority. A man par excellence is a man who does not rely on external objects to convey/represent himself. The identification with a brand (any reference to an established external community) shows an inability of the individual to stand alone and face the realities of this life. Such identification allows the individual a sense of comfort, by giving him the feeling that he is not alone in his journey towards death. As stated by don Juan in Castaneda's The Teachings of Don Juan, the fear of the journey towards knowledge is in fact the first foe one must defeat in his quest for knowledge.

University of the Future

Browsing the internet, I found a very intriguing/interesting website dedicated to fostering a different form of education. Have a look, it seems to be a very intellegent sort of foundation.

Paper 1.2

Media: No Choice But The Corporate Choice

Entertainment. It's all the ordinary person has at their hands in terms of the media. Flip through you're TV channels, all 300 of them. What do you see? Opiates for the masses. Blissful entertainment. People want to be entertained, so the media gives it to them. It's whats popular, so it's whats profitable. The Modern Man has little alternative. Any form of unbiased media is not considered by most to be entertaining, so obviously it's got to go. Bloomberg is the closest it gets to undiluted reporting, and unfortunately it is primarily a financial reporting service. Can't get very subjective when it comes to stock quotes and bankruptcies.

Paper 1.1

Human Consciousness

I found a very interesting paper on the development of human consciousness. It's a little long, but I definitely recommend reading it.

Visual Rhetoric

I have attached four pieces of artwork which serve as visual rhetoric. The first two are by Barbara Kruger. The third and fourth are by Andy Warhol.
